Our Story

Every great idea starts with a spark. Ours was the vision to create hot tubs that blend relaxation, safety, and timeless design. What began as a small passion project has grown into a trusted name, built on quality craftsmanship and care for every detail.

2009

We began our first venture into cedar hot tubs by importing flat-packed, wood-fired tubs, offered as kit-sets only. While these tubs introduced us to the market, they were very basic in design and presented clear quality challenges. This experience gave us valuable insight into what customers truly needed, setting the foundation for the higher-quality, better-designed tubs we create today.

2012

By 2012, we had moved to producing New Zealand–made tubs, which were a step up in quality compared to the imported versions. However, constructing the walls and floors from individual cedar pieces still posed challenges, from potential leaks to poor insulation. This not only meant higher running costs, but also the frustration of bathing in discoloured, brown-tinged water. These shortcomings highlighted the need for innovation and drove us to refine both our materials and design.

2017

After several years of manufacturing traditional cedar tubs, we realised there had to be a better way. Customers were asking for tubs that were more user-friendly, easier to maintain, and offered greater comfort and efficiency. This insight inspired us to rethink the traditional design and pursue innovations that would deliver features and benefits beyond anything else available in the cedar hot tub market.

Today

Today, our ‘new generation cedar hot tubs’ represent a modern evolution of the traditional full-cedar tubs first introduced in the 1970s. Designed with a focus on aesthetics, comfort, ease of use, and efficiency, we believe our tubs set the benchmark in the market. They bring together timeless natural beauty with thoughtful innovation, offering an experience that’s as enjoyable as it is effortless.

There are wee improvements everywhere, such as the rubber between the steps and the base and the double jets - 8 against the 4 in our earlier (medium sized) tub. The tub was lighter and so easier to maneuver into position. Also as the delivery is now done with a crane it's possible to get it plonked right where you need it I suspect for most people. The finish on the cedar around the rim and steps is less complex and WAY easier to keep clean - there are no cracks for leaves and debris to accumulate in. The new spa sanitizer is definitely a step up. It looks very well overall, and suits the vibe of our house SO well. We're just thrilled (and now have to stain our deck which looks rather tatty against it's elegance and beauty!)"

I positioned it in our garden and added decking, a cover over the filter / pump and some steps. With the ferns and lights looks impressive at night. About the only maintenance is changing the water and cleaning the filter 4 times a year (at the change of session). About once a year we apply some oil to the cedar. After 4 + years it still looks great. Over this time we have had almost flawless operation. The only issues I’ve had were a leaking light cover and a small leak due to a faulty O ring (this was actually my fault). Both issues I quickly fixed. Relax Hot Tubs have been quick to respond if I had any issues and always very helpful. I highly recommend them."
